Product Description

A long, slender, and lightweight paddle which will provide a nice sharp stinging sensation with minimal thud. The wood is Mahogany from a Fijian plantation* and the two lines in the blade are Tasmanian Huon Pine. The light and dark colouring in the Mahogany changes as you view it from different angles which brings a real sense of life to the paddle.

*Historically most Big-leaf Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) was sourced from Brazil. However, widespread illegal logging beyond a sustainable level in that country resulted in Mahogany becoming the first commonly traded timber to be listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix II back in 2003. This requires every export to have verified proof of that they were legally obtained and non-detrimental to the survival of the species; a threshold which is rather hard to meet in Brazil. These days Mahogany is grown as a plantation timber in several pacific countries, including Fiji, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. It is the same species as Brazilian Mahogany but can appear a slightly different colour due to differing climatic and environmental conditions.
